Many thanks for your kind review. As I think you suspected , I did intentionally avoid putting any real drama into this story. I usually tend to the other extreme, so for me this was something of an excercise in restraint. I wanted to try taking a fairly sensationalist concept and underplaying it as much as possible. Of necessity this meant straying a fair distance away from both realism and the expectations of a reader. It's very difficult for me to know if I got this tone right, so your comments are very helpful.

The word 'gallybagger' (meaning scarecrow) and the habit of putting 'you' at the end of sentences come from the old dialect of the Isle of Wight. Outside of my father's company, though, you'll rarely hear these usages nowadays, so I think I'll excise them. They will probably confuse people more than add local colour.

I've noted your comment regarding the parson's attitude to Apple, and I'll try to adjust it to make this clearer.

Thanks again, and good luck with your own work.

Where do you want to put your page numbers? Upper right corner? Lower right corner? Top centred? Bottom centred? Create a header for top, or create a footer for bottom. Headers and footers work outside the body text margins but need to be defined. It's up to you where you put your page number. Click on insert header for top or insert footer for bottom. Best of luck.

Hello YWOers,

I'd love to take a look at it again just to see how much you have improved it. I wanted to do it a few days ago but my mommy passed away on Monday and have been away from the site until today. Perhaps over the weekend I'll take a looksie...

Hi Jen,

I'm very sorry to hear about your mother, it must be a sad time for you. I'm sure you have some great memories of her.

Thank you for your kind offer. Whenever you're feeling up to it. Have you made any revisions to your story that you would like me to read?

Take care, Emma
Thanks a million Mr Wrigley

Hi Andrew,

Delighted with your help once again.

I'm thrilled that you think I've now got more arcs of tension than in York Minster's roof. (I always admired that particular building for its fabulous bi-fricating springers)

Every time you point things out that have completely washed over me. I'll get to work on layering in some jokes.

Mrs Drinkwater is the one with all the cats, they cover every surface in her lounge, maybe I need to emphasis this a bit more. She goes on to loose all 17 of them in one night, when the catnappers break into her house and steal them while she sleeps. Your right though, somebody needs to have a heck of a lot of cats.

The olive skin thing eh? It's because I always wanted it myself, I'm the pale freckly type.

I've started reading your latest revision, but I'm not going to be able to finish it till tomorrow night as I want to do it justice and my head is spinning. But it's looking good. I think you've cracked the opening.

Night, Emma

Hi Eileen. I'm afraid I don't know about such things either, but this link might help with the gutter thing.

That was really helpful, Danny. It's the space between two facing pages and now I understand what they mean by 'losing' some of the text if you don't set it up. Well done and thanks.

I agree. Not many of us left on here.

Writing doesn't get any better than this. Human consciouness explored with immense sensitivity.

In my review I said the story made me feel, amongst so many other things, pity. I realise now that I was wrong. Compassion, and the recognition of the falibility of shared humanity, is what the story evoked in me. Truly memorable.

Please can anyone help. I have formatted my book, ready to send off to YWO but there's one thing bothering me. I don't understand the Gutter bit. What on earth is it? I am half afraid to follow the instructions in case I mess the whole MS up. Also, can the book be justified or does it have to be aligned to the left? Thanks for any help.

Eileen
