I said I'd report back when I'd heard something, and here it is. Walkers Books had seen the opening chapters of Money Money Money on YWO and requested the full manuscript. It came back today, on my birthday! I felt so sad when I saw the package with my birthday cards. But not for long. The manuscript has been been rejected as it stands, but it's still the best birthday pressie ever! The accompanying letter was so constructive, very positive, and suggested ways to develop the book further. Then, if I want I can resubmit to the same editor. I am over the moon. I'm going to finish Charlie Zoom and the Ice Monster, and get the illustrations done, (thanks to everyone who supported me with these chapters), then I'm going to concentrate on Money Money Money. It's going to get a whole lot crazier. A huge thank you to everyone who reviewed Money Money Money. Also a huge, huge thank you to Ted. Without YWO this never would have happened. Now it's up to me to try and get it right and I'm not going to rush the writing. It's great news for everyone, because it shows that it isn't just the publishers who give the Professional Critiques that are watching. Linda.

Good luck with the rewrite and resubmission. I'm sure you'll get it right and yours will be the next success story for YWO.

I am thrilled for you too Linda. Well done. Out of interest, what sort of things did they ask you to change? If you wish to share this... And what do you feel about the changes they have suggested?

Hi Patricia. I don’t mind sharing. I so much appreciated the Editor’s long and helpful letter. Those who have read my work on YWO will know it’s basically humorous, or at least I try to write that way. Silly when I can’t even remember simple jokes. Lots of the Editor's comments were personal, but this was the basic advice. The humour will definitely be staying. So a/. is to make the story even crazier (which is the way I’m going to go). Or b/. concentrate on DJ’s vulnerability, his family background and the effects of being saddled with the stolen goods. Also it was suggested that I develop the characters more, especially the main characters. A long while ago, I went on a residential writing course and the writer and editor running the course said I should be just writing real life, as this was my strongest style. I think this put a block on me writing the crazy sort of stuff that deep down I wanted to write. The more personal comments by the editor who read Money Money Money has freed me up of all that nonsense. You should obviously write what you want to write. Thanks to everyone who has taken the time to read my work and for the supportive comments on this thread. I’ve taken Charlie Zoom and the Ice Monster and Dead Men and Red Tomatoes off YWO. Gone, but not forgotten, because I’m going to be working on them too. Happy writing everyone.

That's really interesting Linda. Now you can see how crazy you can really be once let loose. Good luck with the rewriting. I teach the age group you are writing for, and they love anything funny. That's definitely the way to go, and if you can do it without mentioning underpants every teacher will love you too! On their 'friendship certificates' we give out when children leave, where the children say what they liked about each other, the most popular comment is, 'you were funny.' I've always wondered whether anyone might take it the wrong way...But it's definitely the trait children value the most. Have fun, and write what you want to write, and children will love it!

Hi Linda Thanks for the feedback, and I'm really pleased they gave you some good constructive feedback which I'm sure will be helpful. That the editor took the time to do this and would like to see a revised version is very encouraging and I wish you all success with further development. Ted

It's lovely to receive these messages. Thank you so much. If I can pluck up the courage I may put some of the rewrite on YWO. Although it really frightens the life out of me. What if the rewrite is total rubbish? Pass the chocolate.

It's mine, all mine. Mine, I tell you. Sorry, got a bit carried away there.
