I felt I had to write a quick review of this story because I simply like it so much. I found it hugely moving without being mawkish, evocative without being overly elaborate, and perfectly paced. The restrained minimalism of structure and language are well matched to the dignity of the central character, and every detail seems carefully chosen - there is no excess fat here...
