So, I got this rejection letter for my book Red Shadows from an agent.

"Dear William,

I had a look at the sample material of Red Sparrows on Youwrite On. I'm not looking for this type of material at present. I'm afraid I have too much historical literature on my books.

All the best with your creative endeavours.

Best wishes.

I was this close to writing: "Thank you for your review of Red Sparrows, my heatbreaking work on avian life during the communist era. Please inform me when you get a chance to look at Red Shadows!"

But I guess I got some actual information (She doesn't want anymore historical stuff... too bad that's my specialty. )

I'm sure the agent would have found your comment hilarious (as I did), but really once you've had a rejection it's best to just move on.

It'll make a great story for when you're rich and famous and being interviewed.

And this is a good reminder that novels are rejected for many reasons--often it's got nothing to do with the quality.

Probably my favourite rejection came from the BBC when I sent in a sample script to their children's department. Every page of my script had coffee stains, rubbings out and unusual smudges all over them - I could hardly read the comments written on my work. Goodness knows where my precious work had been

At least it had been well-thumbed I suppose...

Wow! Well at least you knew it got read... Perhaps the smudges were some type of writer Rorschach test??? What did they mean to you?

Wow! She put 6 kisses at the bottom! I never get that many kisses in my rejection letters.
