"Excellent.

Hi Goldie,

I liked this very much. Well done.

The prologue is gripping and sets up the background for the novel; even though we don’t know what relevance it has in this extract, we are constantly aware that there have been some dodgy goings on and some not very nice medical staff on the loose.

I didn’t understand the gunfire in a hospital setting - that seemed a little out of place – or your reference to Candy. But you writing is good enough to trust you on that one, and hope that all will be revealed.

When we get into the story proper, I found it easy to read with good dialogue and descriptions. Your characters have a story of their own but the prophetic dream and the imminent surgical procedure for Emma, cast a chilling shadow over your writing. You build the situation and the suspense extremely well and handle Emma’s transformation from a sceptic to a believer reasonably well. It is good that through Emma, we are able to we warm to Theodora and later fear a different angry, more hostile presence; signs that even in the spirit world you have three dimensional characters and a whole big back story going on.

Yes, I think you handle several story lines very well and your competence shines through. I would never normally read a ‘ghost’ story but by the time I reached the end of your extract here, I would happily have gone out and bought this book, read it and recommended it to all my friends. Really well done, a gripping story, very well told.
