Thanks Andrew for your kind comments, your insights and some great ideas.
I am the first to admit that I'm not comfortable writing flashbacks and retrospective sequences, and I admire those who can.
You fired off some good ideas though and rather than avoiding these techniques in future I'm going to try using them. I'll never improve unless I push myself into tackling new (to me) techniques.
I'll leave these chapters as is, for two reasons:- (1)My first review from Snowman was encouraging and (2) I really need to move on with the book and take a break from YWO which can be time consuming and sometimes demotivating.
Thanks again for your encouragement. I only read your bio after your post - with that background you'll never run out of material.
I don't think the horse analogy was accurate though. The latest version was by far the best, but I looked at the original and I still enjoyed it - so I'd be walking through the first, jogging through the second and galloping through this one.

I would definitely leave as is. See what happens, I think it is great writing and you have it from me that if someone doesn't give it high scores, then someone is an idiot.

Life can get in the way of writing.

When did you look? Note that now all versions have been updated to pretty much the same text. Especially the original which will get a pro review this month.

Whatever you do, keep writing. I suspect it is what you do best.

Andrew

I scan read the original quite a while ago, just out of interest. It was good even then, but it didn't grip me to the extent that this version did. In fact, I only had a few minutes and I didn't read it to the end, though I meant to pick it up again.
The complexity of the changing time frames and the multiple stories within the central story really appeals to me. It's a good way of approaching plot construction which is probably why your comments sparked some good ideas in relation to my own writing and how I progress the book.
So thanks again.
Paul
