First, what a great forum. Thanks, Ted!!

I got a rejection (my fault - WAY too soon a submission, with only a WIP as well) yesterday from Ampersand, YWO's new partner agents (or whatever the technical term is). This was only two and a half weeks after I submitted, which isn't that unusual, but they accompanied it with a really helpful letter going into a reasonable amount of detail about what they liked and what needed improving. so a huge thumbs up for them!

That's a very good response time. Must check them out.

Given their association with the site did you mention YWO in your query letter?

Sorry, that sounds a bit abrupt. It wasn't meant to Just interested.

What is a WIP? Sounds painful!

As usual - no science fiction or fantasy

John Jarrold is your man for science fiction and fantasy (in the UK)--he's deserverdly well respected.

Don't have his website address to hand, but a quick google search will bring it up.

Submitted to him 3 years ago and got rejected - way too soon, so my own fault - a bit like Tommi I guess. Might have a go at Chro's suggestion further down though, if they'll take a sub from the uk - mind you - I could always query Jarrold again and see if he'll look at an edit - never hurts to ask!

Have a look in the Tool Box of the Shed (it's open to all, this is not a clique post). There is a brilliant list of agents with their website addresses. I'm sure you'll find one that takes your genre.

I certainly did mention YWO - anything that might get them to take a look. The other thing about an association with this site is you can mention your chrat position/rating and they might have a hope of knowing what on earth you're talking about.

Mine is a Work In Progress, and as someone who abhores acronyms I apologise - my only excuse is that they are officially acceptable if you can make them say something rude - but that's a whole other thread!

Jo, you should check out (I guess you probably have done already) chrono's post about free personalised rejection letters - I went on the site and it's someone who specialises in Fantasy/SF

Thanks for that, it's good to know. As you say anything to give you a bit of an 'in'.
Thanks too for the acronym - I don't always get them.

An agency with the name of Ampersand? Goodness. Shows what happens when you wander away for a spell.

A pivotal character in my book Boomerang goes by "&", which of course is an ampersand. I should think that this would oblige the fine folk at Ampersand Agency to look favorably upon my scribblings.

That is, of course, if they will consider a work from across the pond.

Nice to be back.

Alan
