I went to the Royal Society last night to discover the winners of the 2008 Science Book prizes. There's a general prize and also a junior prize for books thought suitable for under 14s.
Both shortlists were (as you'd expect) entirely nonfiction. I spotted three other Quercus authors there, two who were on the general prize shortlist (but for titles with other publishers). But I was still impressed.
Mark Lynas won the general prize with his
Six Degrees: Our Future on a Hotter Planet. The junior one went to Rebecca Gilpin and Leonie Pratt for
The Big Book of Science Things To Make and Do. Congratulations to all the winners and those shortlisted.
I have linked this to the
Royal Society site, but it's been down for days! There's a bit more info about it in my
blog.
